A Wright City man who was heavily armed and ready to shoot at police in a 2014 incident has received a 10-year prison sentence for his crimes.Jerry Leonard Lane II, 33, was convicted of three felony criminal charges, two for unlawful use of a weapon and one count of first-degree domestic assault. He received 10 years on the domestic assault charge and four years each on the weapon charges. Judge Kelly Broniec ordered the sentences to run concurrently during a hearing March 21.Three days earlier, Lane withdrew his not guilty plea and entered an Alford plea, meaning he does not admit guilt, but concedes there is enough evidence for a conviction. The incident occurred around 2:53 a.m. on Sept. 29, 2014, at Lane’s residence in the West End Trailer Park.He pointed an assault rifle at police and was in possession of multiple firearms and knives, according to police. At the time of the incident, Wright City Police Chief Matt Eskew described the scene as an “ambush-style setup.”No one was injured. When police arrived, deputies observed Lane raising an assault rifle to the hood of his truck and pointing it toward them, according to the probable cause statement. A 12-gauge shotgun also was located next to Lane.Police also said he had a 1911 .45 semi-automatic pistol in a shoulder holster, a .45 Long Colt revolver tucked inside his waistband, a large Bowie-style knife on his belt and a second knife concealed in a pocket. All of the guns were loaded with a round in the chamber, police reported. He also was allegedly wearing a tactical magazine holder with an additional eight assault rifle magazines, each loaded with 30 rounds of ammunition.Earlier in the evening, he allegedly punched and kicked a woman approximately 40 times. They had been together at a Wright City bar and an argument ensued when Lane got mad about the female wanting to leave. They returned to Lane’s residence and that was when he repeatedly struck her, police said. She had multiple contusions and her eyes were completely swollen shut when she managed to leave and walked to the headquarters of the Wright City Fire Protection District.Lane allegedly told the woman he was going to kill her as he was assaulting her. Prior to being taken into custody, Lane drove to the bar and struck the woman’s vehicle with his own, police said.Jerry Lane
