A Warren County man is charged with arson after authorities said he intentionally started a fire in his family’s house.
Joshua M. Williams, 26, was charged Nov. 2 with second-degree arson. He allegedly started the fire Oct. 28 at his family’s home on Pendleton Forest Road, about 4 miles south of Pendleton.
Williams now faces a felony charge that could result in a prison sentence or a fine if he is convicted.
A state fire investigator reported the fire was started in two places, the front porch and the threshold between the living room and kitchen. The investigation indicated someone had used a flammable liquid to start the fire.
Home surveillance footage showed a person identified as Williams walk out of the front door pouring liquid from a flammable material container, investigators said. The video allegedly showed Williams unsuccessfully trying to ignite the liquid.
He then reportedly went back inside and came out with a piece of clothing that he set on fire and used to ignite the liquid.
Warrenton Fire Chief Anthony Hayeslip said the damage to the home was mostly limited to smoke damage. He said the actual fire burned itself out without doing much harm.
