Man charged with having 32 dead cattle on land

CANTON, Mo. (AP) — A northeast Missouri man is charged with nearly three dozen misdemeanor counts after investigators allegedly found 32 dead cattle on his farmland. Fifty-seven-year-old Kirby Clark, of rural Canton, was charged Tuesday with one count of animal abuse and 31 counts of failure to properly dispose of dead animals. Lewis County Sheriff David Parrish says the cattle were found in March on Clark's land northeast of Canton. Twenty-eight dead cattle were found in a small pond and four others were in other areas of the farm. Parrish says Clark told investigators the cattle in the pond fell through ice during the winter. The Quincy Herald-Whig reports Clark faces up to a year in prison on the animal abuse count. His first court appearance has not been scheduled.
