A Eureka man was charged with a felony Friday, Aug. 7, after what he described as a “firebomb” was found in his vehicle in Dutzow.
Nikolas N. Kyhl was charged with unlawful possession or manufacture of an illegal weapon after he approached a sheriff’s deputy earlier that same day in the area of the 11700 block of Highway 94 in Dutzow.
Kyhl contacted the deputy shortly after 10:30 a.m. and told him he needed mental health assistance and he thought people were possibly trying to kill him, according to a probable cause statement.
“Kyhl provided law enforcement permission to drive his vehicle back to his residence for safekeeping. Upon law enforcement entry into the vehicle, in plain view, law enforcement observed a homemade explosive/incendiary device in the driver's side door pocket,” according to the statement.
“The best description of the device is an Everclear bottle with a road flare duct taped to the bottle,” the statement notes. After being read his Miranda rights, Kyhl identified the device as a “firebomb,” according to the probable cause statement.
Kyhl, born in 1984, is being held without bond at the Warren County Jail.
