Authorities have charged a suspect with burglarizing a church in Warrenton last year to steal thousands of dollars in electronics.
Justin A. Spalding, 21, of Hawk Point, was charged Dec. 12 with second-degree burglary and felony stealing. He allegedly took almost $5,000-worth of items from Warrenton Christian Church on South Highway 47 in August 2018, according to a charging document.
The Warren County Sheriff’s Department was called to investigate the burglary at the church Aug. 22, 2018. The person who contacted law enforcement said someone had entered the church overnight or early in the morning, according to the sheriff’s department.
The items taken were two electric guitars and another bass guitar, an LED lighting system, a tool box and tools, and a 37-inch flat screen TV.
Two suspects were identified during the investigation, the sheriff’s department said, one of whom was Spalding. The other suspect has not yet been charged in connection with the crime.
A deputy made contact with Spalding Sept. 4, 2018. Spalding allegedly confessed that he and another person had entered the church without permission and taken the items. The sheriff’s department said Spalding admitted to selling the guitars at a pawn shop in Troy.
Spalding was charged earlier this year with delivery of a controlled substance, stemming from a Wright City arrest in July 2018. He has several prior charges and convictions in Lincoln County related to burglary, stealing and drug delivery.
