Warren County prosecutors have charged a man for allegedly fighting with Warrenton police during an arrest in July 2020.

Lorenzo M. Bryant, 32, of Wright City, was charged last week with third-degree assault against a police officer and resisting arrest. A warrant has been issued for his arrest.

On July 18, 2020, at 1 a.m., a Warrenton police officer made a traffic stop on Highway 47 and identified Bryant as a passenger in the vehicle, according to court documents. Police allege that Bryant had outstanding warrants for his arrest, so an officer attempted to take him into custody.

A search of online court records by The Record did not reveal what original charges might have generated those arrest warrants.

When an officer asked Bryant to exit the vehicle and comply with an arrest, police allege that Bryant ran from them on foot and ignored commends to stop. When officers caught Bryant, they allege that he fought with them, reportedly pushing one officer to the pavement and striking another in the eye and injuring him.

The assault charge against Bryant is a class D felony, while resisting arrest is a misdemeanor offense.
