Authorities have charged an O’Fallon man with forgery and receiving stolen property, related to a January encounter with law enforcement.
The charges were issued against Kevin W. Novak, 33, on Aug. 31.
Warren County sheriff’s deputies allege that Novak was a passenger in a vehicle that was stopped on Jan. 7 in connection with a counterfeit bill investigation.
Novak allegedly consented to a search of his person, during which two counterfeit $20 bills were located in his pocket, according to a sheriff’s department report. The bills were not the same size, and had no security features, the sheriff’s department said.
Deputies said similar bills were used at the Flying J truck stop on Veterans Memorial Parkway the night before.
Novak allegedly stated that he had found the money and didn’t know it was fake.
Deputies also searched a bag in the vehicle and located a stolen Walmart handheld price scanner and portable printer. The two items together can scan items and print new price stickers for them, deputies said.
Representatives of Walmart in Warrenton reportedly confirmed that the items were theirs, and are valued at more than $1,100.
Deputies said Novak has also been arrested for stealing in St. Charles County and Lake St. Louis.
