Thousands of dollars in property damage at a home and the theft of several valuable items led to the arrest of a Warrenton man, according to the Warren County Sheriff’s Department.Stephen L. Duncan, 35, was arrested Oct. 8 in connection with a burglary, damage and stealing that occurred at a home on the 31000 block of Highway W, northwest of Warrenton. Duncan is charged with second-degree burglary, stealing items valued at $750 or more, stealing a firearm, unlawful possession of a firearm and first-degree property damage. The sheriff’s department said law enforcement officers were contacted by the homeowner Oct. 8 after signs of the burglary were discovered. Deputies said a then-unknown person had damaged multiple vehicles by smashing various windows, breaking the mirrors, scratching the sides and damaging the interiors. The damage appeared to have been caused by a blunt object, investigators said. The vandal also entered a pole barn and did extensive damage to a vehicle there.Deputies also found that doors to the residence had been forced open. The vandal broke out multiple windows, damaged lighting fixtures and shattered the screen of a TV in the living room. Other property damage included a broken vapor machine used in a child’s room, smashed coffee pot, broken shelves in a garage refrigerator, and several smashed mirror. The vandal also had used a vehicle to drive through two garage doors, investigators said. While doing so, the vehicle transferred dark blue paint onto a door, leading investigators to believe signs of the white garage paint would be found on the suspect’s vehicle. The homeowner told deputies a Ruger handgun was stolen from the home along with a number of items, including a power washer, leaf blower, hand tools, household items, food, and a jewelry box containing thousands of dollars in jewelry. The sheriff’s department said Duncan was later identified as a suspect in the crimes. Deputies went to Duncan’s residence on South Rock Church Road and allegedly found most of the stolen items sitting on the front porch. They also found a Chevy Blazer with paint transfer on the front bumper, which appeared to match the damaged garage doors. The stolen Ruger handgun was located in Duncan’s dresser, and the stolen hand tools were found in his vehicle, the sheriff’s department said.Authorities said a family member of the homeowner filed a protection order against Duncan earlier this year, with two violations already reported. After being arrested, Duncan allegedly threatened members of the family, stating they would “end up in the river,” authorities said.Duncan had a hearing scheduled for Oct. 16 in Warren County Circuit Court. He has previous felony convictions for theft of property valued over $500 in 2004 and domestic assault in 2012, according to court records.Crime
