An O’Fallon man was taken into custody last week after allegedly firing a round from an AR15 rifle into a home on Coventry Circle in Warren County.Authorities have charged Brenden Sapp, 19, with second-degree assault for the incident, which happened shortly after 1:30 a.m. Aug. 27. Sapp was taken into custody, before being released on a $5,000 bond. The Warren County sheriff’s department was called to investigate the weapon offense after a bullet penetrated the wall of the home while a person was in the same room, according to an arrest report. The witness told a sheriff’s deputy that the bullet had entered through the bathroom wall and passed through the bathtub. The impact reportedly launched multiple small pieces of debris that struck the victim.A search of the area around the home brought the deputy in contact with five people in a vehicle leaving a residence just south of the incident location. Three firearms were found in the rear of the vehicle, according to the arrest report.Three people in the vehicle provided verbal or written statements to deputies that Sapp had fired a single round from an AR15 rifle in the direction of the residence that was struck.Under Missouri law, a person can be charged with second-degree assault if they recklessly cause physical injury to another person by means of discharging a firearm.
