Luecke Signs With Indiana Wesleyan

Six months off a second-place finish at the MSHSAA Championships, Ethan Luecke has made a decision concerning his future on the golf course. The Warrenton senior recently signed a letter of intent to play for Indiana Wesleyan University."I’ve always wanted to play college golf, and it worked out that they wanted me more than any other school,” explained Luecke. One of the most successful golfers in program history, Luecke is a two-time state tournament qualifier. He led last May’s championship through 16 holes, carding a 145 over two days at the Sedalia Country Club. He played through illness, battling Mono.Luecke says that display ultimately earned him more attention from coaches.“It showed that I had the ability to go out and play well under pressure,” said Luecke. “I’m excited and ready to see what God has planned for me.”Luecke says he was impressed during his trip to the Marion, Ind., campus.“When I went for my visit, it was a really nice school,” said Luecke. “I met with the coach, and we really connected.”Coach Rich Barton calls Luecke a program-changer, a steady riser for the Warriors over three seasons.“He epitomizes what being a Warrenton golfer is all about, and we’re real proud of him,” said Barton. “Hopefully this decision will take some pressure off of him, and he can go out and play relaxed next spring.”Luecke has learned the reality of golf’s disappointments first-hand. As a freshman he missed qualifying for the state tournament by one stroke. He overcame that obstacle the next spring, finishing 16th — one place shy of All-State recognition.“He leads by example more than anything,” said Barton. “When he first came in, he was willing to play No. 1 right off the bat. He’s gotten more mature as the years have gone by.”Luecke won a district title as a sophomore and has won numerous individual medals.
