Author Cameron Collins will be the special guest Tuesday, Sept. 19, at 6 p.m. at the Scenic Regional Library Warren County Branch, 912 S. Highway 47 in Warrenton.Collins was raised in upstate New York and came to St. Louis more than 20 years ago. With a love of history, he started taking notice of the historical value there.“The history in St. Louis is deep and rich. It abounds with tales, monuments and landmarks that rival the oldest and largest cities in America,” he wrote on his blog, Distilled History. The Riverfront Times voted it the “Best Personal Blog in St. Louis” at the 2013 RFT Web Awards.“The more I read, the more I realize much of the history of St. Louis is unknown, hidden, or even lost,” he wrote. His Book, “Lost Treasures of Saint Louis” was released April 1. The book examines places, events and items that once were so connected to St. Louis and part of its identity to locals and outsiders. The book has photos and touches on artifacts and eateries such as the Crystal Palace, Goldenrod Showboat, Falstaff beer, Sportsman’s Park and more.Reviewers are saying these lost treasures he writes about reveal how the city was formed.Collins will share such stories during his library visit.Guests should RSVP at 636-456-3321, online or in person at the library.
