Losing a friend?

North Korea has blasted China because of the latter’s action to curb imports from North Korea and China’s support of U.S. sanctions against Kim Jong Un’s country. If North Korea loses China as a friend, it will be doomed. North Korea has depended on China as a friendly ally almost since the end of World War II. Korea was divided into separate entities after the war, when Russia and China pushed for it.Without the help of Chinese ground troops and Russian equipment, the Korea War would never have lasted as long as it did.Russia may have lost interest in Korea some time ago, but China sees North Korea as a buffer against the United States and Japan. Of course, after World War II, the U.S. rebuilt South Korea, from its military to its economy. The South today has a strong economy and the standard of living is high. The leader of North Korea, Kim Jong Un, spends most of the country’s resources on its military and developing nuclear weapons. Its people are starving. Kim’s immediate goal is to take over South Korea. If he made the first strike, it could do great damage to the South, but the retaliation by the U.S. and South Korea would wipe North Korea off the map. That would be the end of Kim’s country and his family’s control of the North.Kim is a ruthless dictator who eventually will try to do something with his military and its weapons. But he is losing the support of China and that’s a stupid move on his part.China doesn’t need North Korea, which really needs China as a close friend.
