Local task force apprehends man wanted in Texas

The Wright City-Truesdale Crime Reduction Task Force recently apprehended a Hawk Point man wanted in Texas following a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 70.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol and the Wright City Police Department responded to Interstate 70 for two-vehicle crash Thursday, June 24.

It was determined a driver of one of the vehicles involved  fled the crash and was hiding in a motel room at the Super 7 Inn, located at 13100 East Veterans Memorial Parkway in Wright City.

Scottie Lee Winters, a 35-year-old male from Hawk Point was identified as the driver that fled. When he was identified, law enforcement also found that Winters had a warrant for his arrest from Harris County, Texas, for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Officers surrounded the Super 7 Inn and made contact with Winters on the phone. Winters explained he would not be turning himself in and an unknown subject peaked through the window of the room Winters was suspected of occupying. A search warrant for the room was granted and then served by the Crime Reduction Task Force, and Winters was taken into custody.

Winters was transferred to the custody of the Missouri State Highway Patrol and is currently being held at the Warren County Jail.

The Crime Reduction Task Force (CRTF) is a multi-agency unit comprised of officers from the Wright City and Truesdale Police Department. Their mission is to reducing violent crime and improving community safety through proactive intelligence-based enforcement.

Their focus is on the apprehension of dangerous offenders and the disruption of criminal enterprises operating within and across local jurisdictions.
