Local Soldier Killed in Iraq

The casket is expected to arrive around 6:45 p.m. into Wright City. The community is encouraged to line the streets. Around 300 American flags are lining the North Service Road and other streets in Wright CIty. A Wright City soldier serving in Iraq and just two weeks away from being married was killed last week. Pvt. Lucas M. Bregg, 19, died from injuries suffered in a non-combat related incident July 8, the Department of Defense announced last week. The circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation, according to a release. Bregg, who joined the military last July, had been supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom for five months. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 5th Calvary Regiment, 1st Calvary Division in Fort Hood, Texas. Family members said he was planning on returning home to marry his fiance, Courtney Broyles, on July 25, according to The St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Bregg was a 2008 graduate of Wright City High School. Before moving in with his father for his senior year, Bregg attended Francis Howell North High School. Visitation services are scheduled for this Friday from 4-9 p.m. at Baue Funeral and Memorial Center, located at 3950 W. Clay St. in St. Charles. Funeral services will be Saturday at 1:30 p.m. Burial will follow at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery. Bregg was born May 9, 1990, in Florissant. He is survived by his parents, Michael Bregg and Tracie Green; two brothers, Zachary and Colton Bregg; and one sister, Taylor Bregg.
