Two people suffered serious injuries Wednesday, June 16, in separate motorcycle crashes in Warren County.

Robert W. Mathis, 56, of Warrenton, was involved in a crash with an SUV at Veterans Memorial Parkway and Spoede Lane around 12:30 p.m., according to a Missouri Highway Patrol report. Mathis was eastbound on a 1998 Harley-Davidson motorcycle, when he was struck by a 2018 Kia Sportage that was turning from Spoede Lane onto Veterans Memorial, the highway patrol said.

Mathis reportedly was not wearing a helmet during the crash. He was taken to Mercy Hospital St. Louis with serious injuries.

The highway patrol said the driver of the Kia, Starla F. Minor, 69, of Troy, did not see Mathis on his motorcycle as she was making her turn onto Veterans Memorial Parkway, and allegedly failed to yield. Minor did not have reported injuries.

Later that evening, a second, single-vehicle motorcycle crash sent another Warrenton resident to the hospital. Kyle J. Barnes, 27, was reported to have serious injuries and was taken to St. Joseph Hospital in Lake St. Louis, according to the highway patrol.

Barnes was northbound on Highway A, riding a 2003 Honda VTX, when he reportedly swerved to avoid a deer. The motorcycle overturned and Barnes was thrown from the vehicle.

The highway patrol said he was not wearing a helmet.
