Local children make final requests to Santa Claus

Posted
Over the past three weeks Santa Claus has made frequent trips to Warren County to visit local children and make certain he’s heard all of their requests as Christmas fast approaches. He’s taken pictures with hundreds of children and even a few dozen pets. Last Thursday, he braved the cold to arrive in style on a fire truck while visiting children in the Ashland Meadows subdivision north of Warrenton.Children received candy canes and made their final requests, revealing what the hot items are under the tree this year.Ayla Weeks asked for a hoverboard, Hatchimal and a virtual reality headset. She is particularly excited about the Hatchimal, which has been dubbed this year’s toy craze. Children are able to care for a toy bird that hatches from a shell.“They’re like the new hot toy, so you can’t find them anywhere, because people buy them all and turn around and sell them,” said Weeks. She is confident Santa will come through, because the store may not be an option. Walmart has Hatchimals listed at $60 but, like many retailers, is currently out of stock.Maddisyn Hoelscher is hoping Santa will bring her first cellphone.“I also want a puppy and a brother — no more sisters,” said Hoelscher.Katelyn Morris didn’t hold back when making her requests.“I asked Santa for everything,” exclaimed Morris. “And he said ‘OK.’”Her sister, Isabel, simply asked for a charm bracelet.Nick Schulze is hoping to add a four-wheeler to his collection, along with bean bags and a hoverboard. His sister, Lexi, is hoping for a toy doll.Aside from hoverboards, which were quite the frenzy during last Christmas, iPods were also a popular request for Santa last Thursday. Based upon children’s lists, Santa’s elves will be finishing up a variety of toys over the next few days. Most children had unique requests, like 7-year-old Payton Stenard, who wants a Cozmo the Robot guy.Sophia Giannakis is hopeful Santa will bring her a dance mat so she can work on her moves.“She’s really into dance,” says her mother.
