Lions Club hosting carnival this week

Record Managing EditorFrom the scrambler to the octopus to the paratrooper, the grounds at the Wright City Lions Club will take on a different look this week. The Lions Club is hosting a carnival, set to open Thursday, Aug. 6, and end Saturday, Aug. 8.Located at 678 Westwoods Road, the nonprofit organization has contracted with Missouri-based Fountain City Amusements to provide rides.Members said the Lions Club used to host circuses in the 1980s and felt the carnival would be a nice attraction for families to enjoy close to home.“As a service organization, the Wright City Lions Club needs to fund its charitable contributions as well as maintain its building,” said Lions Club member Austin Jones. “This is an opportunity the Wright City Lions Club saw as a way to allow the kids and families to have fun while raising some money to fund its needs.”The carnival will be open from 6-10 p.m. on both Thursday and Friday. It will have two sessions on Saturday from 1-5 p.m. and 6-10 p.m.Armbands cost $20 per session. Individual tickets are also available. This week’s carnival provides an opportunity for families to spend some time together prior to school resuming this month.“When the Wright City Lions Club set the date, the members knew it was the last full weekend before school started,” Jones said. “The members also recognized it was a viable alternative to the Fair in Washington. The Wright City Lions Club saw this as an opportunity for families to spend time together close to home.“The main goal is to provide a fun-filled community event.”For more information, email wrightcitylions@yahoo.com or visit www.wrightcitylions.com.Carnival
