The City of Marthasville issued a precautionary boil advisory after noticing low water pressure and low water levels at its storage towers, which provide water to residents west of city hall.According to a press release issued by Marthasville, the water tower by city hall and the one at the old hat factory were nearly depleted due to well #1 on Pecan Street losing power from a lightening strike. The well stopped pumping sometime Friday evening until late Sunday evening when the well was turned back on. When water levels reach a certain minimum level in storage tanks or pressures are too low, precautionary boil advisories go into effect which require follow up water samples that must pass before the boil advisory can be lifted. As a result from the loss of power we have also learned the the altitude control valve is also not working properly, which should have allowed for well #2 up at the stand pipe to feed the other two water towers and prevented the low water and low pressure issues. The city stresses that the advisory is not mandatory, but ask residents to boil water as a precaution until tests come back clear. The Department of Natural Resources and Warren County Health Department have been notified of the situation.
