Lighting being considered for Indian Head Lodge Road

Record Managing Editor Adding lights to Indian Head Lodge Road may be the next improvements undertaken by Wright City officials. With work already being performed to upgrade the road’s driving surface, Public Works Director Larry Janish last week asked officials to consider adding lighting. Officials agreed lighting is needed on the tree-lined street, which is located northwest of Wright City High School off Westwoods Road. Janish will receive cost estimates to add lights from both Cuivre River Electric Cooperative and Ameren Missouri, since both companies have light poles on the street. The expense will be reviewed at a future board of aldermen meeting, likely when they meet next on June 26. “Kids are walking down at night and you can’t see nothing in this roadway,” Janish said at last Thursday’s board of aldermen meeting. “It is very dark. I will check and see what they will charge us. There are plenty of poles there.” Also at last week’s board meeting, aldermen adopted an ordinance agreeing to a contract with Mid River Asphalt, Inc., Troy, to pave Indian Head Lodge Road and parts of Roelker Road. Janish said the paving projects would cost approximately $98,750. The paving projects are tentatively scheduled for the second week of July and should only take two days to complete, according to Janish. City crews have started prep work on Indian Head Lodge Road. Workers have replaced old piping that runs underneath the street and some curbing to make sure stormwater flows into the ditch. Last month, aldermen voted to spend up to $75,000 to repair and resurface Indian Head Lodge Road though it remains unclear who the owner actually is. A state statute allows municipalities to use funds to improve a road that connects to it. The city also received approval from the Warren County Commission allowing it to proceed with the road improvements. City officials believed the road had been voluntarily annexed into the city. However, it was recently learned that Indian Head Lodge Road was not included in the legal description of the land that was previously annexed. The road serves as the only entrance for a subdivision located within the city limits and for other city residents who live nearby. The deteriorating condition of the street has prompted many complaints from residents in the area. Though it doesn’t own the road, the city has done minor maintenance and cleared it of snow during the winter for several years.
