Liberty Christian students place in Optimist Club Oratorical contest

Kameron Bagby of Troy, a junior at Liberty Christian Academy in Wright City, recently won the Optimist Club of Wentzville’s oratorical contest based on a theme of “How My Best Brings Out the Best in Others.”Bagby competed against 29 other contestants. The competition began with a preliminary round in which eight students were named as finalists. All eight finalists were from Liberty Christian Academy and include Natalie Reifel (Troy), Kameron Bagby (Troy), Tara Hoguet (Foristell), Savanna Cantrell (Troy), Daniel Dothage (Warrenton), Cooper Summers (Wentzville), Mia Thietje (Wentzville) and Brendan Dickson (Warrenton).Bagby was awarded first place, Summers was awarded second place and Dothage was third.In addition, Bagby and Summers will advance to the regional level where they will compete against winners from other Optimist clubs in the region. Dothage will serve as the alternate.The winners of the regional competition will be sent to the district level with the chance to win a scholarship, and then possibly go on to the Optimist International Regional/World Championship for a chance to win an additional $5,000 to $15,000 scholarship.“The finalists did a great job presenting their speeches,” State Rep. and contest organizer Bryan Spencer said. “These students have a bright future ahead of them with the skills that they demonstrated within this contest. I am proud of the quality of students that this area has to offer to represent us at the next level. ”“I am very proud of our LCA students and was blessed to hear how each of them has been a positive influence in impacting the lives of others. It is great to see what they have been taught put into practice,” commented Liberty Christian Administrator Beverly Wilgus.Optimist International is one of the world’s largest service club organizations with 93,000 adult and youth members in 3,200 clubs in the United States, Canada, the Caribbean and Mexico and throughout the world. The Optimist Oratorical Contest is one of the organization’s most popular programs, with more than 2,000 clubs participating annually.
