The Liberty Christian girls basketball team struggled to keep up with an undefeated Crosspoint Christian squad Jan. 8, losing 62-24.
Senior guard Matilyn Voss faced another night of double-teams, but led the Eagles with 13 points.
“We just didn’t have the firepower,” Liberty Christian Head Coach Matt Voss said. “We did better, we just have a lot of young girls.”
Voss was the focus of the Crosspoint Christian defense all night, opening up space for eighth-grade guard Jenna Grow, who finished with seven points in the loss.
“Jenna did very well,” Matt Voss said. “She picked up the slack when they double-teamed Matilyn.”
Crosspoint Christian jumped out to a 20-5 lead after one quarter, but Liberty Christian cut four points off the deficit heading into halftime.
The Eagles (8-9) ran out of gas in the second half, and were outscored 34-7 in the final two quarters.
“I think we could have come out better in the second half, but we just didn’t have enough weapons to stay with them for a full four quarters,” Matt Voss said. “They really focused on Maddy, and we couldn’t adjust offensively.”
Senior guard Kaylen Jordan and sixth-grade guard Adison Roden added two points a piece.
“They’re the best team in our league,” Matt Voss said. “So I’m pleased with how we competed.”
