Senior night was a success for the Liberty Christian boys basketball team, which unleashed an 82-41 victory over visiting North County Christian Tuesday night.
It was bittersweet for Head Coach Kenny Hart, who coached three seniors, including his son, Logan, for the final time on their home court. Logan finished with 24 points, while fellow seniors Jacob Vaclavik and Braeden Grow netted 17 and 5, respectively.
“The last month we’ve regrouped and started doing what we’re good at, which is running fast and attacking the rim,” said Hart. “We’ve been grabbing defensive rebounds and shooting out and going. That’s what the boys have been priding themselves on.”
And the Eagles can be excited about the future too, with junior Andrew Voss having led the way with 27 points.
Liberty Christian pushed the tempo to build a 24-14 lead after one quarter.
Voss scored 22 of his points in the first two periods to help the Eagles move ahead 46-25 by halftime.
It was smooth sailing from there, as the reserves occupied the floor during much of the second half. Liberty Christian led 68-36 heading into the final period.
“I made a few roster adjustments, and ever since then we’ve been controlling the paint,” said Hart. “If we can do that, it allows us to run and gun.”
The Eagles improved to 21-4 with the win and now await their assignment for the Metro Athletic Conference Tournament, which begins next week. Hart anticipates Liberty Christian will claim the third seed and play at either Thomas Jefferson or Greater Christian Academy of St. Louis.
Liberty Christian girls overpower North County
The Liberty Christian girls basketball team improved to 18-7 earlier in the evening with a 58-26 win over North County Christian School.
All nine players on the Eagles roster found their way into the scoring column, with three reaching double figures. Andrea Mueller netted a game-high 14 points.
Liberty Christian cruised out to an 18-4 lead on the heels of nine points from Adison Roden.
The Eagles led 29-10 by halftime and 44-19 after three quarters.
Roden finished with 12 points, while Annabeth Colbert contributed 11. The only gleaming area of weakness for Liberty Christian was a 4-of-15 performance at the free-throw line.
