For a second straight season, the Missouri State Christian Schools Athletic Association coveted prize evaded the Liberty Christian boys basketball team.This time the Eagles were much closer than during a 2014 blowout, losing 69-65 to Life Church School of Kirksville in overtime of the title game on Saturday.Liberty Christian overcame an early deficit to force the extra period but ultimately succumbed to an 11-of-21 performance at the free-throw line.Tanner Meyer led the Eagles, who finished 25-8, with 28 points.The Liberty Christian girls basketball team placed fourth at state, falling to El Dorado Christian School 63-42 on Saturday.A troublesome third quarter doomed the Eagles, who had lost to Providence Christian in the semifinal on Friday.Junior Matilyn Voss was named to the all-state first team, while senior Avery Dickson was chosen for the second team.See this week's edition of The Record for a full story.EAGLES FINISH SECOND IN STATEDerrick Forsythe photo.
