A Warrenton man with a lengthy criminal history is facing two new felony charges in Warren County Circuit Court after he allegedly stole a woman’s purse on the parking lot of the Kroger grocery store and fled from police Saturday, April 6. James W. Lewis, 22, is charged with one count each of second-degree robbery and resisting arrest, according to court records. Lewis’ bond was set at $35,000. He was scheduled to appear before Circuit Judge Wes Dalton Thursday, April 11. Warrenton police responded to the grocery store in the 600 block of East Booneslick shortly before 10:30 p.m. the night of the incident, according to a probable cause statement. Lewis allegedly grabbed the purse from the victim, identified as Lee Ann Wise, and fled the scene, according to Warrenton police. Warrenton police, assisted by Truesdale Police Chief Andy Huston, conducted a search of the area. Huston found Lewis behind the Warrenton Baptist Church and a pursuit began. According to court records, Huston ordered Lewis to stop as the pursuit continued along the south fence of Walton Park and into an alley. Two witnesses, who were not identified by police, stopped Lewis, enabling Huston to take him into custody. James Lewis
