A state lawsuit alleging discrimination by the city of Warrenton has been removed to federal court.Alvin Dale Avis, who worked in the city’s grounds/maintenance department, filed the suit in Warren County Circuit Court July 17. Avis alleges he was fired for criticizing the mayor and the city’s board of aldermen. The suit names the city of Warrenton and its director of operations, Terri Thorn, as defendants. The defendants requested that the suit be removed to the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri in August, which was granted. In an answer filed in federal court, the city and Thorn denied the allegations maintaining that Avis was terminated for legitimate, non-discriminatory, reasons, including insubordination. They have requested that the case be dismissed.Lawsuit Against City of Warrenton Transferred to Federal Court
