A new winery will open in Marthasville in mid-June.Lake Creek Winery is slated to open June 18 at 15088 Boone Monument Road.The business is owned by four partners, including brothers Mike, Ken and Don Flesch, and Henry Slodkowski.Don Flesch lives in Lake Sherwood and the other three reside in the St. Louis area.“We have been looking for a property for years to do this project,” said Mike Flesch, who has experience running a Norwegian cruise line.“It was about finding the right climate, elevation and soil,” he said.Lake Creek farms is situated on the bluffs of the Missouri River. Through three glacial periods, silty loam soil was deposited on these bluffs, which is ideal for viticulture, Flesch explained.Vineyards were planted about three years ago. Approximately 5 acres have been planted, with plans for additional vineyards to be planted in the future.The owners rent tank space from other area wineries to produce wines.The winery’s tasting room is nestled in an 1860 farmhouse that has been remodeled. Inside the farmhouse is a small marketplace with gift items and souvenirs.Outside, there is a full deck and three patios that surround the house, all of which overlook the Missouri River valley. There is seating for 200 people outdoors.The facility also has a pergola, which seats 40 people, and a covered pavilion that can accommodate up to 200 people for special events.The winery primarily will offer Missouri white wines, but also will have some red wines, all in sweet and dry varieties.A menu will be offered with appetizers, salads, cheese, sausage, fruit, sandwiches and other entrees. Menus for groups also are being developed.The venue is working with local catering companies to offer catering for weddings and events.Live music will be performed on various weekend nights, Flesch said.After years of helping start businesses, Flesch said he’s excited to start his own.“It will be fun to see it swing into life,” he said, adding that he’s excited to see how guests react to the 360-degree views.“I’m really looking forward to the wine side of the business, growing the Lake Creek brand and seeing where we can take it,” he said.More information is available online, at http://lakecreekwinery.com/ or on Facebook.Lake Creek Winery, Marthasville, will open next month.
