HANNIBAL - Construction of the new southbound lane of the Route 47 Lake Creek Bridge is complete, and MoDOT and its contractor plan to shift Route 47 traffic to the new southbound lane on Saturday, August 16 approximately 10 a.m. Work on the northbound section of the bridge is scheduled to begin on Monday morning, August 18.What to expect during constructionTraffic signals will continue to control both Route 94, and northbound and southbound Route 47 traffic across the bridge and through the intersection. Concrete barriers will be used on the bridge to isolate workers from traffic in the work zone; therefore the travel lanes will be narrower, restricting use of the bridge for oversize loads. Barriers will be in place seven days a week, allowing this work to go on during the day as needed; other work requiring lane closures outside the barrier may only take place during nighttime hours.Construction ScheduleAugust 18 - September 30, the northbound lanes of the bridge and pavement will be removed and replaced. Traffic will be traveling on the new southbound lane of the bridge with a 12 foot width restriction. The new bridge will open to traffic by the end of September. However, the contractor will be working at night with temporary lane closures using flaggers before and after construction of the bridge for shoulder repairs and resurfacing at Route 47 and 94 intersections. The new, wider bridge will be 40 foot wide with two 12 foot lanes and 8 foot shoulders and will be 138 foot long; the nearby Route 47/94 intersection will be improved with better shoulders, guardrail and surfacing. The existing 80 year old bridge was only 26 feet wide and 113 feet long. The contract for the new bridge was awarded to Kozeny-Wagner, Inc. of Arnold, Missouri at a cost of $1,621,988.38.For additional information about this project or other transportation issues, please call MoDOT's toll-free customer service number at 1-888-275-6636 (ASK MODOT) during normal business hours or visit our website at www.modot.org/northeast.MoDOT
