The Warrenton Lady Warriors have now won three games in a row, highlighted by a 28-point win over Winfield and a road victory at Orchard Farm.
The Lady Warriors (13-8) scored a three-point win over St. Charles West High School last Wednesday. They won the game 31-28. The win snapped a two-game skid. The Lady Warriors followed up its win with a 28-point win over Winfield Friday.
“We had the game at Marquette and we played really hard,” Warrenton girls basketball coach Greg Williams said. “And then we were tired against St. Charles. We don’t do good back to back nights. And so that was kind of a we just got through it. And then tonight a little rest and they got some focus.”
Junior center Kaelyn Meyer said the team’s defense was the biggest factor in the win. The Lady Warriors held Winfield to nine points in the first three quarters of the game.
“That’s how we get those fast breaks like that is from defense,” Meyer said. “That’s how you stop the ball and get down the floor and beat them.”
The Lady Warriorrs followed up their win Friday with a 44-29 win over Orchard Farm. The win avenged a six-point loss against Orchard Farm earlier this season.
Meyer said Friday the team’s focus after Friday’s game shifted to its game Tuesday against Orchard Farm. Meyer credited Orchard Farm as being a tough team.
Williams said Friday he was confident the team would be fired up for the game against Orchard Farm.
“They had a parent from Orchard Farm and get on Tik Tok or some nonsense and like was talking trash,” Williams said. “So I don’t think I’m going to have to really get them fired up. I think they’ll be. I’ll have to calm them down probably. So some mom lost her mind and was saying some really ridiculous stuff. So and I’m not on Tik Tok. But the kids are all fired up.”
The Lady Warriors have games scheduled Thursday and Friday this week. All three games this week are playoff prep for the district tournament later this month, Williams said.
“Every game’s playoff prep,” Williams said. “All of a sudden, after those three games, all of a sudden now it’s you lose you go home. Obviously these kids are putting in a lot of hard work and they want to continue to play. So it’s really fun and some of them have some experience winning the district and playing in the sectional. So their thirst that thirst is great for that. So they want that.”
