The Warrenton Lady Warriors dropped a road game Monday against Orchard Farm.
Warrenton (3-7) lost the game 5-1. The Lady Warriors surrendered three goals in the first half. Sophomore Camryn Petersmeyer scored the lone Warrenton goal in the 44th minute to pull Warrenton within two goals. Orchard Farm added two goals later in the second half to win 5-1.
Warrenton coach Amy Wargowsky believes Warrenton had a stronger second half than first half.
“Which is consistent for us pretty much,” Wargowsky said. “I think we come out a little nervous but then we settle in and get going…I’m pretty proud of how they did. Orchard Farm won conference last year. They won eight games in conference and so they’re always a tough opponent.”
Warrenton is the first conference team in three games to score against Orchard Farm. Orchard Farm won their previous two conference games against St. Charles West and Winfield 8-0.
Wargowsky conceded Orchard Farm was able to possess the ball for much of the game. The key when playing teams that can possess the ball is to anticipate where the pass is going and to step in, Wargowsky said. The Lady Warriors knew to expect through passes and triangle passes from Orchard Farm, she added.
Wargowsky sees the team making progress through 10 games this season.
“We keep getting better,” Wargowsky said. “We need to be better at using passes more and carrying the ball less,” Wargowsky said. “Because the more you carry the ball, the more tired you get. Using your passes, you move the ball quicker. And then eventually just getting more shots on goal.”
Warrenton lost 1-0 to Capital City last week. They dropped a home game against Winfield 4-1 Tuesday. In the game against Winfield, the Lady Warriors fell behind 2-0 going into halftime. Winfield scored goals in the 16th minute and the 20th minute of the first half.
Warrenton narrowed the deficit early in the second half. The Lady Warriors scored a goal in the 49th minute of the game to pull within one goal. Winfield added two late goals to clinch the win. They scored in the 73rd minute to extend their lead to two goals. They scored another goal later in the second half.
Warrenton is scheduled to play at St. Charles West today. The game is scheduled to start at 6 p.m. They are slated to host Orchard Farm Tuesday. The game is scheduled to start at 5:45 p.m.
