Keene Is 2013 Warren County Fair Queen

On a picture-perfect night, the Warren County Fair crowned a queen. Hanna Keene was crowned 2013 Warren County Fair Queen Tuesday.Keene said she had been nervous about the upcoming night, but used her sense of humor and fun to reach the finish point.“This has been a dream of mine since I was a little girl,” she said, noting how she and her family had participated in the Fair throughout her life.Keene took first place in the three-minute speech portion of the contest.She will be the Fair’s chief ambassador throughout the week, presiding over other contests and events with the rest of the court. Next year, she will be eligible to compete in the Miss Missouri competition at the Missouri State Fair in Sedalia.Warrenton Tire & Muffler was Keene’s sponsor. The 2013 WHS graduate played basketball and won state honors in track. She also competes in barrel racing.Keene plans to attend the University of Missouri in the fall to pursue a degree in physical therapy.The first runner-up was Haley Long, who took top honors during the interview portion of the competition.Long said she has long been fascinated with politics, and plans to pursue a career in international relations and hopes to one day work as a diplomat.As part of the competition, she was asked if she had the opportunity to show President Barack Obama any part of Warren County, what would she like to showcase about her community? Long answered she would take President Obama to her church — Friedens UCC in Warrenton — to show him her faith community here.“I’m a church leader, so I’d want to show him as a leader what I’m involved in here,” said Long, who was sponsored by Deana Dothage Photography.Second runner-up was Madison Heath, also a 2013 WHS graduate.Heath, sponsored by Gastorf Chevrolet, was on the Student Council and played basketball and volleyball. She plans to study business at the University of Missouri in Columbia.The third runner-up was Kristen Toedebusch, a 2013 WHS graduate and member of the National Honor Society.She has been involved with the Warrenton FFA and Camp Branch 4-H, and plans to attend Northwest Missouri State to study to become an agriculture educator.Toedebusch was sponsored by Vehige Farm Store.Lydia Mittler was chosen Miss Congeniality.A 2013 WHS graduate, outdoors and mud-running enthusiast, Mittler participated in the Warrenton FFA and the business and marketing organization DECA.She will attend Linn State Technical College for an associate’s degree in business.When asked how she planned to spend the rest of the fair, Mittler said, “I’m going to keep the queen in good spirits,” noting how her sense of humor had helped her win the votes of her fellow contestants.Mittler was sponsored by Treloar Garage.Contestant Alexis Klott (Electric Beach tanning salon) was recognized for selling the most fair tickets, and Joanne Niederer (Pumpkins Galore) won the evening gown contest.Judging for the Fair Queen contest was held at Creekside Church with three independent panelists judging the contestants on speech and interviews, gown and other criteria.To open the event, the girls performed a choreographed dance to Jason Aldean’s “She’s Country.”Flowers for the evening were provided by A Moment of Grace florist.

Hanna Keene was crowned 2013 Warren County Fair Queen Tuesday night during the opening night of the Fair. Keene was crowned by 2012 Fair Queen Ashley Bauer. The Fair will run through Saturday, July 6.
