A Shawnee Mission, Kan. Man was charged with aggravated fleeing a stop or detention and two misdemeanor offenses following an incident Feb. 6 around 12:50 a.m.
According to a probable cause affidavit submitted by the Wright City Police Department, an officer observed a vehicle traveling at 81 miles per hour exiting Interstate 70 while the officer was parked on the Wildcat Drive overpass. The officer attempted to stop the vehicle but the vehicle failed to stop and accelerated rapidly. According to the affidavit, the officer reached up to 115 miles per hour, while the Mercedes-Benz he was following continued to create distance. The vehicle failed to stop at the sign at Elm and Veterans Memorial Parkway and then ran off the roadway in an accident and came to a stop. The driver was identified as Matthew Bowman of Shawnee Mission, Kan.
Bowman is being held without bond in the Warren County jail.
