Kaminski’s Home Furnishings under new ownership — sort of

In 1960 Eugene Kaminski opened Kaminski’s Home Furnishings. At times since then the home furnishings store has been through more changes than just sofa styles and the latest trendy appliance colors. But not a lot more.Eugene Kaminski died in 1974. Ownership of the store went to his children and their spouses, Ken and Jackie Kaminski, John and Mary Ann McCann and Joan and Glenn Rucker. At one time there were Kaminski’s stores in Fulton, Jonesburg and Montgumery City. After a while, the family decided Jonesburg was the only place to be. They settled into a warehouse at No. 21 Highway NN, where it is now.The location was good. Right on Interstate 70. The store could be seen by Warren County homeowners as well as those driving by on their way to St. Louis, Lake of the Ozarks, Columbia and everywhere in between.“Once we got highway exposure, business blossomed,” said owner John McCann.McCann said the first section of its current and longtime location opened in 1980. It was expanded in 1989 and again in 1995 to make room for the La-Z-Boy Gallery.Today, it’s about 36,000 square feet and neatly packed with furniture, appliances, mattresses, flooring and home accessories.Recently, it’s had a slight change of ownership. The Kaminskis and Ruckers all retired and left the McCanns with a decision to make about the family business.“I either had to retire or buy it, so I bought it,” said McCann, who started working at Kaminski’s when he was a high school student. That was several years before he started dating Mary Ann Kaminski. The transfer of ownership was official Feb. 16, making John and Mary Ann McCann the sole owners of the business.“It’s exciting. We know it’s going to be a lot of work and a commitment. We’re both excited to continue serving customers the same as we have for these last 50 years,” said Mary Ann McCann. The couple said they do not plan to make any big changes — except a bigger focus in one area.“All American-made. That’s our aim, to sell American products,” said McCann. Some new signage may be coming too, but probably not the one right outside the store.Kaminski’s offers delivery and financing to qualifying customers. Store hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Saturday. The store is closed Sundays. For more information, call 636-488-5922.

John and Mary Ann McCann once were partners in ownership of Kaminski's Home Furnishings. Now they are the sole owners. The couple said not to expect big changes except seeing for more Amercian-made products. Mary Ann's father, Eugene Kaminiski, was the store's founder.
