A Franklin County jury convicted a Warren County man for engaging in deviate sexual acts with a young girl on multiple occasions.Kenneth D. Edwards, of the 26000 block of Pendleton Forest Road, Warrenton, was convicted of three felony counts of first-degree statutory sodomy and first-degree incest at the conclusion of a two-day trial April 19.The trial was moved to Franklin County on a change of venue.Edwards will be sentenced July 7. He faces up to life in prison on each of the sodomy charges and up to four years on the incest charge, Warren County Prosecuting Attorney Kelly King said. The female victim was under the age of 14 when the alleged sexual acts occurred, police said. According to court documents, the inappropriate contact happened between July 1, 2004, and June 30, 2008.“I commend the victim,” King told The Record. “It took an awful lot of courage to report it and to testify against him.”The Warrenton Police Department began an investigation into the allegations in April 2014 after being notified by the female victim. Edwards has remained in custody since his arrest that same month after criminal charges were filed. This is not the first time Edwards has been accused of a sex crime involving a young girl. He was convicted in 2001 of sexual misconduct and placed on the sex offender list. In 2013, he pleaded guilty to failure to register as a sex offender and was placed on five years of probation.A second suspect, Melissa Edwards, also is facing a felony charge of child endangerment in connection to the case. She is accused of knowing Kenneth Edwards was a previous sex offender and allowed unsupervised contact between him and the girl.Melissa Edwards testified against her ex-husband in the trial.
