The city of Jonesburg launched a planning process known as “Blueprint for Growth.” The result will be a comprehensive plan that will guide the future development of the community in a practical and efficient manner while creating an environment that will attract new opportunities for the community. In pursuit of this result, an advisory committee comprised of local residents will evaluate existing conditions and, with public input, create a shared vision for the community. The city will then be able to identify development opportunities and impediments, and craft innovative approaches to community, economic and housing development to serve as the blueprint for growth. The advisory committee held its first meeting on Aug. 6. The city hired MarksNelson LLC to advise the committee and guide the process. Steve Etcher, manager with Marks-Nelson, provided training for members during the Aug. 6 meeting.“The city of Jonesburg is poised to see new growth and development as a result of recent economic development efforts and the community must be prepared to accommodate this growth,” said Heath Sellenriek, who was appointed to chair the advisory committee that will make recommendations to the city. “This plan will enable the city to capture these opportunities while building a community that reflects the values of the residents”The planning process is intended to run through June 2016 and three public forums are being planned to engage the community.
