A Jonesburg man was killed, and another injured, Tuesday morning in a fiery crash on Interstate 270.According to a Missouri State Highway Patrol preliminary report, Richard E. Matteson, 58, was killed in the 8:20 a.m. crash that was north of Highway 100 on I-270 north in Town and Country.Matteson was a passenger in a 1996 Dodge Ram Van driven southbound on I-270 by Thomas J. Schirmer, 53, Jonesburg, who lost control of the vehicle, crossing several lanes of traffic.A trailer towed behind the Schirmer van was then struck by a 2017 Freightliner Conventional tractor-trailer driven southbound by Robert D. Williams, 49, St. Ann. The Schirmer vehicle rolled onto its side, left the roadway and struck a concrete median. The vehicle then was struck by two southbound vehicles —a 2014 Kenworth Conventional tractor-trailer driven by Nancy A. Steward, 54, Clarksburg, Tenn.; and a 2011 Infiniti G37X, driven by Alan J. Ramsey, 50, St. Louis, the patrol said.The Schirmer vehicle and the rear of the Steward tractor-trailer then caught fire, according to the patrol.Matteson was pronounced dead by West County EMS personnel. His body was taken to the St. Louis County Morgue by Lonning Mortuary Services.Schirmer and Ramsey were taken to Mercy Hospital St. Louis by the Creve Coeur Fire Department.
