A man from Jonesburg has been charged with drug trafficking and four other felonies after being arrested at the Flying J truck stop in July, according to court records.

Joshua E. Rook, 45, was arrested July 20 by sheriff’s deputies on the lookout for suspicious activity, according to a sheriff’s department document submitted to the court. A number of recent vehicle thefts and drug activity had been reported in the area, deputies said.

Officers approached Rook’s vehicle in the parking lot of Flying J after a license plate check indicated the plates belonged to a different vehicle than what Rook was driving, according to the sheriff’s department.

Deputies allegedly observed marijuana in the vehicle, and began a search of Rook’s person and vehicle. Deputies allege that Rook had suspected methamphetamine and marijuana on his person, and a larger amount of both drugs in the vehicle. Deputies also reported locating multiple kinds of opioid pills, a digital scale, empty plastic baggies, and a loaded handgun.

A total of about 1.5 pounds of marijuana and almost 3 pounds of meth were seized, deputies said.

In addition to drug trafficking, Rook has been charged with illegal delivery of a controlled substance, two counts of felony drug possession, and unlawful possession of a firearm.

Authorities said Rook has numerous previous felony convictions, including burglary and drug distribution. At a court hearing on July 25, Associate Circuit Judge Richard Scheibe ordered that Rook be held without bond at the Warren County Jail pending trial.
