Following the April 6 election in which Austin Jones and Mary Groeper ran unopposed and were re-elected, the Wright City R-II Board of Education selected its leadership for the next year. During its April 19 meeting, the board elected Austin Jones to serve again as president. Alice Klem was elected vice president, while Corri Ruge and Groeper will serve as secretary and treasurer, respectively. Klem, a teacher in the Fort Zumwalt School District, also was nominated as president. Jones begins his 10th year on the board, and fifth as board president. A product engineer for Express Scripts Inc., Jones says he is pleased to continue leading the board in its work to benefit students and the community. He said he is gratified to have been a part of numerous accomplishments the school has seen in the past few years. "We started the Academy alternative school, which has been very successful, sold the old middle school building and used the proceeds to build our current central office, and had a number of successful bond issues that have enabled us to expand and improve our facilities and programs without tax increases," said Jones. He said his focus in the next three years will continue to be on student achievement and in working with the board, administration and the community on navigating through tough economic challenges.
