The Warren County Record is pleased to welcome award-winning journalist Jonathan Riley as the newspaper's new editor.

Riley will direct the newspaper’s news coverage and editorial focus. He began work at the Record last week. He replaces William Carroll who accepted a position closer to family in Mississippi.

Riley most recently was the managing editor at the Washington Missourian from 2023-2026. He began his tenure at the Missourian in February 2023 as a general assignment reporter until he was promoted to the newspaper’s top editorial position. Prior to moving to the region, he was the editor and associate editor of the Morning Sun, a daily newspaper in Pittsburg, Kansas. Riley also has worked for weekly newspapers in Massachusetts and California.

"We're proud to welcome Jonathan to our team,” Publisher/Owner Tim Schmidt said. “He brings years of award-winning journalism and a passion for producing the kind of trusted local news our readers expect. His experience will strengthen our commitment to delivering high-quality community coverage."

Riley's award-winning career includes honors for excellence in writing and photography, with recognition in categories including government and political reporting, religion and health coverage.

“I’m excited to be here and looking forward to getting to work keeping our readers informed about what’s going on in their community,” Riley said. “But being new to Warren County, it is entirely possible, especially at first, that those with a deeper knowledge of the area will have a better idea where to find under-reported news. Please don’t hesitate to reach out with your tips and feedback.”

Riley has a bachelor's degree in psychology and a minor in mass communication from California State University East Bay and a master’s degree in journalism, political reporting concentration, from Boston University.

Riley can be reached by emailing editor@warrencountyrecord.com or by calling the office at 636-456-6397.
