A mother’s lesson for her own kids has led to a vision that she hopes will help a number of other area families this holiday season.
The Jingle Bell Boutique, a new creation of Wright City Thrift Store Board Vice President Kelley Wright, is a different type of giving, she says.
Wright said the idea was born out of an idea to allow children to get a gift for their parents, grandparents and siblings as a way to teach the joys of giving.
“When I was a young mother, I didn’t have the money to take my kids shopping,” she said. “We started a tradition where we would go to the dollar store and have them get little $5 gifts. They just loved it.”
Wright said that as a mother, seeing the presents her children would get for her and each other was memorable. She said her youngest son began a tradition he still carries with him of purchasing some form of angel as his preferred gift to give.
“I want children to learn the joy of giving,” Wright said. “There is just something about their (children’s) faces when they get something special for one of their family members.”
The Jingle Bell Boutique is being hosted by the Wright City Thrift Store Dec. 12 starting at 4 p.m.
Wright said the special day will allow kids to come in and shop for a couple of hours for gifts for their families. Wright said she is asking families interested in participating to RSVP by Dec. 5. The goal is to provide 50 families the opportunity to participate in the event in its inaugural year.
Wright said her church, the historic Harmonie Church and Wedding Chapel, has been collecting donations for items so that each participating family will receive a breakfast bag as part of their participation in the boutique.
Wright said businesses and individuals can also participate in the event by becoming a sponsor. Sponsorships will help provide shopping vouchers for families, supplies and treats for the event.
Those interested in participating as a sponsor or a family can contact Wright at ads@warrencountyrecord.com.
