Mrs. Janice Marie Toben (nee: Ronsick), of Warrenton, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 10, surrounded by her loving family. Janice was born in Washington, MO, on February 24, 1933, to Edwin and Alma Ronsick (nee: Buchholz).
In her youth, Janice was an avid athlete. She often shared stories of never learning to sew, but instead, choosing to "play ball with the boys." She played volleyball through high school and ran a backyard badminton league with friends well into her 50's. Her favorite team was the St. Louis Cardinals, and she enjoyed watching nearly every game.
Janice was married to Robert (Bob) John Toben. They eloped in Harrison, AR, on August 23, 1953. They were blessed with 67 wonderful years together and two children. Janice spent her professional years working for Missouri Edison and then as the office manager/cashier for IGA (where she and Bob were part-owners). Janice was a devout Christian and an active member of Friedens UCC. She and Bob also spent as much time as they could exploring the world, traveling across the United States and Europe throughout their long marriage.
Janice was a true rock for all her family and a wonderful nurturer. She wanted to attend every game, performance, and even practice. She was the ultimate babysitter and loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great- grandchildren. She enjoyed playing cards and board games. Her love for children extended beyond her own family. You could always find her babbling to babies and chatting with toddlers, whether it was in the church pews or at the grocery store. Kids were drawn to her outgoing nature and bright, genuine smile.
Whenever her grandchildren and great- grandchildren think of Grandma, they remember Christmases at her home, photos around the decorated tree, her famous cookies, and Grandma and Grandpa's Christmas village. Her kids recall fond memories of another season, summer. The family spent many summers vacationing at the Lake of the Ozarks with close family friends. Janice loved boating and water skiing. She knew how to enjoy life through all its seasons.
Janice was preceded in death by her husband, Bob. Her family is comforted by their faith and knowing they are united in Heaven. Janice was also preceded in death by her brother, Larry; and daughter- in- law, Pat. She is remembered by her brother, Ed and his wife Darleen; sister- in- law, Trudy (widow of Larry); her children, Steve Toben and his wife, Carol; and Kim Moreau and her husband Derrick; five grandchildren, their spouses and significant others; eight great- grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and many more family relatives and friends.
A memorial visitation for Janice Toben will be held on Saturday, July 27, from 11 A.M. to 12:30 P.M. at Friedens UCC in Warrenton. A Celebration of Life service will immediately follow at 12:30 P.M.
