Now that the Electoral College has certified Donald Trump as president-elect with votes Monday in state capitols throughout the country, it’s time for all of us to accept the results.With all states reporting, Trump finished with 304 votes to 227 for Hillary Clinton. There were 538 electors. A total of 270 Electoral College votes are needed to win the presidency.Several Democratic electors tried to vote for protest candidates but they either changed their votes to Clinton or were replaced, the Associated Press reported.Missouri cast its 10 presidential electoral votes for Trump. The Electoral College has 538 members, as mentioned, with the number allocated to each state based on how many representatives it has in the House plus one for each senator. Missouri has eight House members and two senators.There were anti-Trump protesters at many state capitols where the voting was taking place. More than 100 were at the capitol in Jefferson City. Most of them were Clinton supporters.A joint session of Congress is scheduled for Jan. 6 to certify the results of the Electoral College. Once the results are certified, Trump will be sworn in Jan. 20.It is time for the Clinton supporters to recognize that Trump won and protests are all in vain.
