To The Editor:
I would like to personally say thank you for the overwhelming amount of support and kindness our friends and supporters have shown us during the Proposition Safer campaign. I also want to say thank you to our members for holding themselves to the fundamental ethical principles this organization has built itself upon.
It is crystal clear to me, our community holds the Wright City Fire Protection District in reverence for who we have become, an organization dedicated to professional conduct and ethics.
We deeply appreciate the service and supreme dedication of those who built the foundation of this organization, but one must realize times have changed. The bucket brigades and horse-drawn, steam fire engines are long gone. Marginalizing the needs of your fire district is not something the current board of directors, tasked with the job of providing vital fire and emergency services to the community, is willing to do.
The Wright City Fire Protection District is a modern fire and rescue organization doing all we can to meet the physical and fiduciary responsibilities placed upon us by the community we serve.
The Wright City Fire Protection District has worked with the same voter-approved operating levy increase since 2002. Improvements have been made on many fronts to sustain operations since then, but the current need is critical. We are seeking 34 cents to help us continue to serve with the accountability, respect, integrity, compassion and excellence you have come to expect.
Simply put, the passage of Proposition Safer will secure funding for your fire district to operate at the high level of service currently offered, for you, and your grandchildren.
As a leader of this organization, I stand tall when I say I could not be more proud of the men and women of the Wright City Fire Protection District. They risk more than most could ever understand, and they ask for very little in return.
Support your fire district, and your firefighters, by voting yes on Proposition Safer.
Ron MacKnight
Chief, Wright City Fire Protection District
