Innsbrook voters to decide issue forgoing future elections when races are uncontested

Record Staff WriterVoters in the Village of Innsbrook will decide Tuesday on a measure that would allow the village to forgo holding a board election if the number of candidates equals the number of seats up for election.Village Administrator Chris McCormick said the measure stems from a Missouri state statute that allows villages and municipalities with fewer than 1,000 permanent residents to eliminate elections in uncontested races for a period of six years.McCormick said the measure would have to be approved by voters every six years.Trustees approved placing the issue on the ballot at their Jan. 13 meeting.McCormick said trustees are in favor of the measure because it would save the village about $400 each time there is no election needed.“We would still have to put a notice in the paper each year even if there will be no election,” she said. The notice, which has to be published in at least one publication, would contain the names of the candidates who would assume the open seats, according to the ordinance. If passed, the measure would be in place for the April 2016 election.McCormick said there are currently 552 voters in the Village of Innsbrook. This year, there are three candidates running unopposed for three seats on the board.Innsbrook
