An inmate at the Warren County Jail went into labor Thursday, Sept. 14, and was rushed to Mercy Hospital Washington, Sheriff Kevin Harrison said.
The call went out through the county 911 communications center around 2:40 p.m. that a 19-year-old, 42-week-pregnant female inmate had gone into labor. Warren County Ambulance District responded to the jail to transport her.
Harrison said the woman had been incarcerated on felony charges since June, and that the staff had been making arrangements for her to deliver the baby.
“We knew this was coming; we had everything planned out,” Harrison said. “We made arrangements for a medical furlough. She was supposed to be induced tonight (Thursday), and she went into labor early.”
The woman was regularly being transported to Mercy Hospital for prenatal treatments, Harrison said.
Before being transported Thursday, she was fitted with a GPS tracking bracelet, the sheriff said. She was kept at the hospital four days after delivering the baby and returned to custody at the jail Tuesday, Harrison added.
