An inmate was found dead the morning of Feb. 5 at the Warren County Jail, according to a post on the Warren County Sheriff Department's Facebook page.
James Haverstick, 40 of Warrenton, was found unresponsive in his bunk. Ambulance personnel pronounced him dead at about 12:50 a.m.
According to the information released by the sheriff's department, jail staff last had contact with Haverstick at 9:30 p.m. the previous evening. He was later seen on video walking to his bunk, talking with other inmates, watching TV.
He laid down on his mattress at 10:48 p.m.
An unnamed inmate asked jail staff to check on Haverstick later that night because he didn't hear him snoring.
Jail staff entered the dormitory housing unit, requested EMS and began life-saving efforts until medical personnel arrived.
Haverstick's body was taken to the St. Louis County Medical Examiner's Office for an autopsy.
The sheriff's department says no further information will be released because of the ongoing investigation.
