Glenn Craig will remain the Warren County coroner.The incumbent survived a primary challenge from two candidates and won the Republican nomination. Because no other parties entered a candidate into the race, the winner of the Republican party will win the position.Craig won by less than 100 votes. He garnered 1,972 votes (34.85 percent) to narrowly beat runner-up Tom Massman (1,879 votes, 33.2 percent). Denise Mauzy placed third with 26.61 votes, 26.61 percent. Craig, 49, has held the coroner position since January 2015 when he was appointed by Gov. Jay Nixon to fill a vacancy created when Roger Mauzy, the previous coroner, won a race for presiding commissioner. Craig, who was appointed as a Democrat, ran this time on the Republican ticket.The Wright City resident also is a firefighter and paramedic. Assessor RaceWarren County Assessor Wendy Nordwald retained her position by a significant margin.Andrew Smith, 69, challenged Nordwald for the assessor spot in Tuesday’s Republican primary. Because no other parties entered a candidate in the race, the winner of the Republican primary will win the position.Nordwald racked up 4,137 votes (73.1 percent). Smith managed only 1,245 votes (22 percent).Nordwald, 47, lives in Warrenton. She has served as the assessor since 2005. County CommissionDan Hampson will continue to serve on the Warren County commission following Tuesday’s primary.Hampson beat his lone challenger, Kathryn Fischer, for the Northern District commission seat. Because no other party filed to run, Hampson will keep his seat.Hampson picked up 1,427 votes (53.29 percent). Fischer managed 1,018 votes (38.01 percent).For the Southern District commission seat, Republican Hubert “Hubie” Kluesner ran unopposed. He will face no challengers in November. Public AdministratorMelissa “Missy” Dempsey will advance to the general municipal election, along with Lisa Waltrip, a Liberterian candidate who ran unopposed.Dempsey defeated Eugene Buxton in Tuesday’s Republican primary. Dempsey garnered 2,941 votes (51.97 percent).Buxton managed 2,168 votes (38.31 votes). Dempsey is a Warren County native and lifelong resident of the county. She retired from the 12th Circuit Juvenile Office after more than 25 years of service.Election results
