Record Staff WriterNext Tuesday’s race for Marthasville mayor will pit the incumbent against an opponent who served as mayor several years ago.Jason Schantz, the current mayor, is finishing up his third year in office, while David Lange is seeking to fill the role once again.Schantz, 47, was appointed mayor in 2012 and was elected April 2013. He said he is seeking another term because he would like to continue working with the board to improve city services and fulfill the goals outlined in the city’s comprehensive plan.“From what I’ve heard we have made great strides in the past few years and I’m really proud to be a part of that accomplishment,” he said. Some specific accomplishments Schantz and the board of aldermen have achieved are improvements to services offered to the community.“We have been able to increase staffing and hours at city hall, increase police patrols and deliver more to the citizens,” he said.Schantz has served as vice president and secretary on the Marthasville Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors and also held the offices of vice president and secretary on the board for East Central Missouri Development Association. He also has been a representative on the Boonslick Regional Planning Commission Board of Directors. He is a laboratory manager at ESA in Marthasville.Lange, 56, is a former mayor and alderman who said he left office about a decade ago after experiencing some health problems.“Luckily, my health issues have somewhat stabilized over the past few years,” he said. “With my desire to give back to the community and with encouragement from citizens of Marthasville, I have chosen to run for public office again. This community is important to me and I would like to ensure it is a wonderful place for others to enjoy.”Lange said if elected, one of his main goals would be to listen to his constituents.“From what I hear, they would like the city to focus on three basic services — water, sewer and streets,” he said.Lange said he would not only work to ensure the city properly maintains these services, but would like to see infrastructure improvements as well.“Community members also want the city council to prioritize city services and watch out for wasteful spending on services as well,” he said.City of Marthasville
