The city of Warrenton has one contested race on the April 3 municipal election ballot.Tom Boos will face incumbent Mike Shilharvey for the Ward 1 board of aldermen seat. Aldermen serve two-year terms.Shilharvey’s candidate profile is below.Boos did not provide a photo or a candidate profile.Shilharvey is a retired sales manager in the beverage distribution industry. He is the incumbent in this race and also serves as president of the board of aldermen.“I wish to continue to work for commercial, residential and industrial growth in Warrenton and to do it in a controlled manner while maintaining fiscal responsibility,” he said. “I would like to oversee the completion of the projects we worked hard to get started; the Interstate 70 interchange, a new Schnucks store, a Rural King and the aquatic center and park. Revitalization of the downtown area is also a project that must be continued. We have started work on the North Highway 47 project, addressing issues of pedestrian traffic and widening of the highway, and I will work to see that project continuing and moving forward.“I would also work toward a reconnect with the Greater Warren County Economic Development Council,” Shilharvey added. “I believe that working together assures us of a stronger path toward economic development in our city and county. I also wish to pursue the city’s involvement in working with the group to bring a vocational-technical school to our area. This is needed to expand a workforce required to bring new jobs to our area.”Shilharvey is a member of Holy Rosary Parish, where he serves on the parish finance committee. He is a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 2341, Warrenton Elks Lodge No. 2662 and Warren County Fine Arts Council.Shilharvey was a member of the Warrenton Board of Aldermen for eight years during the 1990s. He served as interim mayor following Mayor Jerry Dyer’s resignation.His wife Nancy is a retired schoolteacher.
