I-70 shooter gets 24-year sentence in Warren County

The man accused in a 2015 Interstate 70 shooting spree that began in Warren County has been sentenced to 24 years in prison. The attacks injured at least two people and ended in a shootout with police in St. Louis County.

Reginald D. Adams, 27, of Kansas City, Kan., pleaded guilty Oct. 29 to six charges of first-degree assault and six counts of unlawful use of a weapon by shooting at a motor vehicle.

Warren County Presiding Judge Jason Lamb sentenced Adams to 24 years in prison for one of the shootings, which caused serious physical injury to a victim. Adams received 15-year sentences for each of the other charges, to be served concurrently with the longer sentence. He will also receive credit for the four years he has spent in jail.

Adams in 2018 was sentenced to a 12-year prison stint for his actions in St. Louis County. He was charged there with  eight felonies, including assaulting law enforcement officers and armed criminal action.

Earlier this year he also pleaded guilty in St. Charles County to first-degree assault and armed criminal action. He was given a 24-year sentence for that conviction as well.

All of Adams’ prison terms are concurrent with each other, meaning he’ll serve a maximum of 24 years.

The shootings

The 2015 highway shootings and subsequent police chase stretched from Warrenton to St. Ann, near Lambert-St. Louis International Airport.

Cierra Palmer, of Hawk Point, was hospitalized after being shot through her left shoulder blade and sustaining a collapsed lung. She was shot near Wentzville Parkway in St. Charles County, while a child and another passenger were in the vehicle with her.

Before that, Adams allegedly shot driver Matt Endsley of Decatur, Ill., 3 miles west of Warrenton. Endsley was struck in the right arm and chest.

Authorities said Adams pulled up alongside other vehicles on eastbound I-70 and fired shots through his passenger window, intentionally targeting the drivers. After the attacks, St. Ann police said Adams told authorities he “snapped” over a relationship with a girlfriend. Adams allegedly said he was “tired of life” and tired of being a victim of everything.

Adams was taken into custody in St. Ann after he jumped out of his vehicle and fired shots toward several officers who were chasing him. Officers returned fire and arrested the man. Neither Adams nor any officers were shot.
