Hundreds attend Downtown Market Day

Posted
Organizers of a new Market Day festival in downtown Warrenton are already starting to plan for next year after drawing crowds to their first event Saturday, June 23.The festival featured vendors, live music, food and children’s activities, as well as providing a look at several businesses that Downtown Warrenton has to offer.“Our objective was to bring the community together in a family-friendly way, showcasing local artisans and vendors, and allowing people to see all of the creativity available right here in our wonderful town,” said Stacey Blondin, one of the organizers. The entire Market Day event was planned in a relatively short span of time, which Blondin said was a success based on this year’s participation. It was organized by the Warrenton Downtown Association, whose members say they are laying the foundation for even bigger spring festivals in the future.Blondin said several hundred people attended the inaugural Market Day, with 20 to 30 vendors lining the streets with tents and tables full of goods. Items from accessories, to candles, to fresh produce were all available.Ultimately, organizers hope to revive the Fruhlingsfest that was once celebrated in Warrenton, and have a major spring event to show what the downtown area has to offer.“We successfully laid the foundation for a great event that will grow each year,” said Blondin.Cathy Kohenskey, owner of A Moment of Grace Florist, was one of the vendors providing activities for children by helping them make their own flower arrangements. She said the Market Day was well organized, especially for its first year.“People seemed to be happy with the event. The vendor selection was good,” said Kohenskey. “Overall it went very well. I hope they do it again next year.”
